As you get in more traffic the potential for sales increases. That being said the potential of them returning is not really that high - unless you make them "stay" even when they leave by having them subscribe to your mailing list.
With the subscriber list you will be able to keep them updated and send them promotional materials such as newsletters or catalogs. At the same time it's relatively easy and cheap to do since you'll be using email to send them information.
The good thing with an opt-in list is that your subscriber agree to them receiving your materials because they signed up for it. This ensures your messages are not considered spam.
- Give quality and informative content. If a visitor likes the content you're offering they are more open to signing up and become a part of your list.
- Offer a freebie - such as a free report or a small ebook. People sign up for free stuff and it has been shown to be an effective marketing tactic.
Be aware that your subscriber may unsubscribe whenever they feel like they are not liking what it is you're sending them. That's why it's important you send them:
- Good information. Just because they're in your list already doesn't mean you will stop sending them good information. It's actually important that you maintain the quality else your list will leave you.
- Fun and entertaining promotional materials. Text is boring so spruce it up using pictures and graphics is possible. Be creative without going overboard.
- Send freebies once in a while. Think of it as a surprise gift for being a loyal subscriber. It could be as simple as a 10 page free report - anything that your subscribers can use.
Do some market research to see what the hottest trends are so you can actually give your subscribers information before anybody else.
If your subscribers can get something of benefit out of your newsletters they will look forward to receiving more and will not leave you. At the same time you are able to maintain their trust in you so they will be more loyal.
Remember, building credibility and trust with your subscribers is hard; destroying it is easy; the unsubscribe link is so convenient.
